Here we investigate a limiting case of the theory for aggregation and gelation in electrical double layer (EDL) ionic liquids (ILs). The investigated only accounts ion pairs, ignoring possibility larger clusters percolating network. This simplification, permits analytical solutions properties EDL. resulting equations demonstrate competition between free energy an association electrostatic potential For small potentials large negative energies associations, pairs dominate Whereas, than association, electric-field-induced cracking occurs. differential capacitance this consistent pairing has propensity to have “double hump camel” shape. We compare against previous approaches, which do not consistently treat reversible associations
